Billie Jean King is a legendary American former professional tennis player who became a trailblazer for gender equality in sports. She was born on November 22, 1943, in California, and achieved great success in her career, winning a total of 39 Grand Slam titles. King was also known for her advocacy for equal prize money for male and female tennis players. She founded the Women's Tennis Association and the Women's Sports Foundation, and famously defeated Bobby Riggs in the "Battle of the Sexes" match in 1973. Billie Jean King continues to be a prominent figure in the fight for equality and social justice.
