Janet Evans is a former American competitive swimmer born on August 28, 1971, in Fullerton, California. Known for her dominance in distance freestyle events, Evans set numerous world records and won a total of four Olympic gold medals during her career. She first gained attention at the 1988 Seoul Olympics, where she captured gold in the 400m, 800m, and 1500m freestyle events. Evans' distinctive high stroke rate and efficient technique made her a formidable opponent in long-distance races. After retiring from competitive swimming, she has remained involved in the sport through coaching and various charitable endeavors. Evans has been inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame and continues to inspire a new generation of swimmers with her achievements.
