Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar was an influential and pioneering astrophysicist, born on October 19, 1910, in Lahore, British India (now Pakistan). He made significant contributions to the field of theoretical astrophysics, particularly in the study of stellar evolution and black holes. Chandrasekhar's most notable work was on the structure and evolution of stars, leading to the discovery of the Chandrasekhar limit, which describes the maximum mass possible for a stable white dwarf star. This groundbreaking research earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1983. Chandrasekhar passed away on August 21, 1995, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of astrophysics.
