Paul Ryan is an American politician who served as the 54th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2015 to 2019. Born in 1970 in Wisconsin, Ryan began his political career as a congressional aide before winning election to the House of Representatives in 1998. Known for his conservative views on fiscal policy and entitlement reform, Ryan was the Republican vice-presidential nominee in 2012. He has been praised for his work on budget issues but also faced criticism for his positions on healthcare and social security. After retiring from Congress, Ryan joined the board of Fox Corporation and founded the American Idea Foundation.
