Herbert Hoover was the 31st President of the United States, serving from 1929 to 1933. Born in 1874 in Iowa, Hoover worked as a successful mining engineer and humanitarian before entering politics. He gained international acclaim for his efforts in providing relief during World War I and the 1927 Mississippi River flood. However, his presidency was marred by the onset of the Great Depression, leading to widespread economic hardship and high unemployment rates. Hoover's efforts to address the crisis were largely unsuccessful, and he was defeated in his bid for re-election by Franklin D. Roosevelt. Despite his struggles as president, Hoover continued to work on various humanitarian efforts throughout his later years.
