Roy Lichtenstein was an American pop artist known for his iconic comic book-inspired artwork. Born in 1923 in New York City, he studied art at Ohio State University before embarking on his career. Lichtenstein gained fame in the 1960s for his bold, graphic paintings that used Ben-Day dots and bright colors to mimic the look of comic strips. His works, such as "Whaam!" and "Drowning Girl," are considered symbols of the pop art movement. Lichtenstein's art explored themes of consumer culture, mass media, and the nature of art itself. He continued to create striking pieces until his death in 1997, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the art world.
