Lyndon B. Johnson, often referred to as LBJ, was the 36th President of the United States, serving from 1963 to 1969. Born in 1908 in Texas, Johnson began his political career as a congressman and later became a senator before assuming the presidency following the assassination of John F. Kennedy. LBJ is remembered for his ambitious social programs, including the "Great Society" initiatives aimed at fighting poverty and promoting civil rights. Despite his domestic successes, his presidency was overshadowed by the Vietnam War. Johnson chose not to seek re-election in 1968 and retired to his Texas ranch, where he passed away in 1973.
