Louise Nevelson (1899–1988) was a groundbreaking American sculptor known for her large-scale, monochromatic wooden assemblages. Born in Kiev, Ukraine, Nevelson immigrated to the United States as a child. She first gained recognition in the art world in the 1950s and 1960s for her distinctive work, which often explored themes of memory, identity, and spirituality. Nevelson's innovative use of found objects and her bold, abstract compositions have solidified her legacy as one of the most influential sculptors of the 20th century.
