Vannevar Bush (1890-1974) was an American engineer, inventor, and science administrator. He played a pivotal role in the development of the atomic bomb during World War II as head of the U.S. Office of Scientific Research and Development. Bush also proposed the concept of the Memex, an early form of hypertext and the precursor to the World Wide Web.
