Venkatraman Ramakrishnan is an Indian-born American-British structural biologist, known for his groundbreaking research on the structure of the ribosome. He was born in 1952 in Chidambaram, India. Ramakrishnan received his Ph.D. from Ohio University and pursued postdoctoral research at Yale University. In 2009, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, along with two others, for his work on the ribosome structure. Ramakrishnan is currently a Group Leader at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK, and a Fellow of the Royal Society.
