Millard Fillmore was the 13th President of the United States, serving from 1850 to 1853. Born in 1800 in New York, Fillmore worked as a lawyer before entering politics. He was a member of the Whig Party and served in the House of Representatives and as Vice President before assuming the presidency after the death of Zachary Taylor. Fillmore's tenure was marked by his support of the Compromise of 1850, which sought to address issues surrounding slavery. He also initiated diplomatic relations with Japan. Fillmore is remembered for his moderate approach to politics and his efforts to maintain unity in a divided nation.
