Paul Gauguin was a French Post-Impressionist painter known for his bold use of color and innovative artistic techniques. Born in Paris in 1848, he initially worked as a successful stockbroker before turning to art in his mid-thirties. Gauguin is best known for his paintings of exotic scenes from Tahiti and other South Pacific islands, where he sought to escape the constraints of European society and delve into a more primal, spiritual existence. His work has had a lasting impact on the development of modern art, influencing artists such as Pablo Picasso and Henri Matisse. Despite his struggles with poverty and illness, Gauguin continued to create groundbreaking art until his death in 1903.
