Walter Brattain was an American physicist who, along with John Bardeen and William Shockley, invented the first transistor at Bell Laboratories in 1947. Born on February 10, 1902, in Xiamen, China, Brattain earned his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Minnesota. His groundbreaking work in semiconductor research revolutionized technology by paving the way for the development of modern electronic devices. Brattain received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1956 for his role in the invention of the transistor. He passed away on October 13, 1987, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the field of electrical engineering.
