Yasser Arafat, born in 1929 in Cairo, was a Palestinian leader and the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO). Arafat played a significant role in the Palestinian struggle for independence, advocating for a Palestinian state and representing his people on the international stage. Throughout his career, Arafat faced both praise and criticism for his leadership style and tactics. He signed the Oslo Accords in 1993, which aimed to establish peace in the region, leading to Arafat being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994. Arafat passed away in 2004, leaving a complex and enduring legacy in the Middle East.
